“Thanks For the Wine”

I am going to write a poem
that you will not like
for it is about you.

I cannot even mention you
or allude to you in any way.
Even the electric cherry blossom

that shone above your head
illuminating your face,
giving it hues of purple

and pink
must not be mentioned
because it inevitably leads to you.

Even the weight of the air
between us
across the shiny white table

must not be spoken of
or written about
because it is inextricably linked to you.

So what am I going to do?
Nothing. I will simply say
thank you for the glasses of wine.
