“Sartre in the Mall”

The only thing about Sartre that I remember
From my Philosophy class, aside from his peculiar
Eyes, is his kill-joy, anti-social mantra,
“Hell is other people.” But he may have been
Stuck in holiday traffic when that thought

Occurred to him. Or he may have been trapped
In the middle of a three-day, mall-wide,
Midnight sale, his legs killing him,
His knees about to give way, and his stomach
Screaming at him like a toddler, “Feed me!”
