“My Son and Daughter”

Ever since I
became a dad
and had
two beautiful
of my own,
every boy and
every girl
that I see
who suffers
and looks at me
with their
pure eyes
has become
my son
and daughter
back at me.

  1. This is deep (and I’m not using deep it in its blanket meaning: where people say it to politely describe poetry they don’t understand). It’s really good and has given me an insight into how parents may be viewing the fight between Gaza and Israel, which has produced some horrible images lately.
